The magnificent Iberostar Quetzal is a very popular All-Inclusive resort,
nestled across 28 acres of lush jungle with a spectacular beachfront and
artistic flair. Literally immersed in vegetation, stone laid walkways wind
through a light forest of trees, with restaurants on raised platforms peering
over lagoons filled with tropical goldfish.
This hotel operates in conjunction with a second hotel, the Iberostar Tucan, and
the conjoined properties share a host of facilities on a 10-acre spread. A
complimentary children's club and plenty of child-friendly food further sweeten
the deal, making this a popular resort for families. Spring-breakers are
discouraged by age-bracket policies (at least one person age 25 or older is
required in each room).
Quetzal's lobby adheres to a Mexican colonial motif. The hotel shares six
restaurants with the Tucan. The main buffet restaurant, Tulum, has an exhibition
kitchen. The other dining areas include Marimba, which offers a Continental
breakfast alternative and functions as a steak house and bar in the evening.
Hacienda and Cozumel lay forth the Mexican food, and Gondola does Italian.
Guests can choose dinner at one specialty restaurant for every two nights of
eating buffet. Room service is another option, and four bars (one on the beach,
one in the lobby, one a night club and one in the disco) keep guests happy.
A gigantic thatched palapa rises over the lobby, with statues of Mayan figures
and a pyramid shaped kiosk bar. Covered marble walkways lined with blue pillars
pass beneath Mayan arches, leading to specialty restaurants.
The Iberostar Quetzal resort is located directly on the fine sandy beach of
Playacar, approximately 30 miles south of the Cancun International Airport and
only minutes away from the town of Playa del Carmen. This unique hotel offers
350 rooms in individual Bungalow style buildings.
Surrounded by spacious, tropical gardens, this complex blends harmoniously into
the landscape and features 350 elegant bungalow-styled guestrooms divided into
three-story buildings. The guest rooms are well-standardized in 10 three-story
structures fringed with thatched eaves. The cool marble floors, brisk
air-conditioning, and cushioned sofas and armchairs make them refreshing
respites from the balmy air, and the bright walls and Mexican artwork give them
character Standard guestroom amenities include air conditioning with ceiling
fan, private bathrooms with shower and hairdryers, private terrace or balcony,
satellite color TV with remote control, mini bar, direct-dial telephones and
in-room safe deposit boxes.
Activities center on the four pools that take up the central part of the hotel,
and the complex holds plenty of palapa shade huts both here and on the beach to
keep guests from frying to a crisp. Besides the main pool, which has an island
whirlpool, guests enjoy an activities pool, a quiet pool and a children's pool.
Three lighted tennis courts are on the premises, along with sailboards, kayaks
and snorkeling gear at the beach. Indoor and outdoor spa services are available,
but at a cost. A dive shop also operates on-site.
The hotel personnel is already waiting to make you enjoy our extraordinary world
of "All Inclusive" Iberostar. Find specialty restaurants from many parts of the
globe, refined or simple drinks, domestic or imported. Feel hungry at a very
late (or very early) hour? No problem, there is always something to eat.
Experience a great culinary offer and enjoy endless details. Our daily
activities program offers a variety of social and recreational activities plus
nightly entertainment featuring live music and professional dances.
So whether you are a family, couple, group, or traveling solo, make the
Iberostar Quetzal your next Caribbean vacation destination. This hotel offers a
fine compromise for those who want some of the back-to-nature allure of the
smaller resorts with the closeness to Playa del Carmen's shopping and social
scene.

Iberostar Quetzal Reviews
Hi everyone! My family and I just got back from the Quetzal on
June 27th...we had an amazing time!
Beach: Great beach! One of the best in the area. Everyone seems to play the
towel game, but since we weren't too interested in the palapas (they are
furthest back from the water) we just grabbed a couple of umbrellas from the
towel shack and opened and closed them when the sun got to be too much.
Otherwise plenty of beach loungers for everyone!Food:
The breakfast buffet was fine. There is a large selection of foods to choose
from. We had lunch by the pool (there are two restaurants on either side of
the pool) This was ok. Plenty of salsa, guacamole, chips. Also burgers,
chicken, fish, pizza, fries. Dinner buffet had a different selection every
night...delicious.
Rooms: The rooms were fine. They were clean and comfortable.
There was cable TV, the balcony had a small table and a couple of chairs. The
bathroom was spacious (large shower). Fridge was stocked daily with water,
soda and beer. Star Friends: They were the best! This group of people kept
everyone entertained. They ran the pool/beach activities as well as doing the
shows in the evening. They were so personable and we got to know some of them,
especially Ines, Adrian, Claudia, Carrie and Eduardo! My 16 year old son was
with us and they would always ask him to participate in the dance lessons, the
pool games and the evening dancing which was great since he was on his own!
Drinks: I discovered a Mexican way of having beer called a
Chelada which was a salt rimmed glass with lime juice and beer! Very
refreshing. Mojitos were also pretty good.
Pool: Pool was huge! Lounge chairs under palapas always
taken, but plenty to be found in the sun. The pool had a couple of shade beds
but they were hard to get. There's also an activity pool which was good for
doing laps (if you wanted to exercise some of those meals away!) There's also
an adults only swim up bar which got pretty loud towards the end of the day.
We didn't make it in there, but it looked like the people were having a good
time!
The grounds were beautiful! We saw monkeys every day. We had
a resident one outside our room who just hung out in the shade. Iguanas
everywhere, peacocks, lizards and flamingos
Overall a wonderful trip..loved the Quetzal and would definitely go back!!
****
Hi , We just returned to the UK on Tuesday
after 2 weeks at the Quetzal, what can i say - it was everything we hoped for.
After getting advice on here about interconnecting rooms and when to email we
arrived after a 9 hour flight to find the said rooms allocated to us in
building 27 we had a great view of the jungle and Flamingo pond. As we had
stayed at the IB Maya last year we had a good idea of what to expect and were
not let down. Service was great and the grounds stunning, pool great, and we
loved the beach being just a step away.
How anyone cannot like this place I cant understand, the food and restaurants
were all good, and bar a couple of thunder storms the weather was great too.
We would 100% recommend this complex and return
tomorrow if I could.
